Vancouver Island Fibreshed

The Vancouver Island Fibreshed (VIF) initiative links farmers, fibre artisans, fibre related businesses, research and public education together to create a renewable agricultural economic system based on growing and processing local fibre. Fibresheds clothe humans in locally produced, climate beneficial, renewable fibers and nurture the development of additional end uses for fibre: insulation material, green burial caskets, landscape fabrics, oil spill booms, and much more. Going into our second year of operation, we realize the absolute importance of VIF’s role to facilitate relationships between fibre farmers, help them expand their knowledge of quality fleece production, and build consumer interest in buying local fibre products.

geographic focus is Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
